Final Call for The Blues

It's been revealed Southend United's tax bill now stands at almost half a million pounds. The shock figure was announced as the Blues survived another winding up order at The High Court. Representatives for HMRC told the court this morning that Southend are now insolvent - and owe 411 thousand pounds in unpaid taxes. But the club says the money will be paid because of 800,000 pounds due in soon - from season ticket sales. However, it still can't afford to pay staff at Roots Hall. The players were eventually given their wages for February after Southend borrowed the money from the Professional Footballer's Association - which has led to an automatic transfer embargo. The club's been given until April 14th to settle the outstanding tax debt - or face administration - or even liquidation.
